Saint Alban’s Lent Group 2017

Posted on Tuesday 14th February, 2017

The Saint Alban’s Lent Group 2017 will explore the Archbishop of Canterbury’s recommended reading for the season. Every year, the Archbishop chooses a title as his “Lent Book” and it offers a wonderful opportunity to unite with Anglicans all around the globe in studying the same material at the same time of the year. In 2017 the book in question is one written by the Archbishop himself – Dethroning Mammon: Making Money Serve Grace.

In this, his first full-length book, Justin Welby looks at the subject of money and materialism. Designed for study in the weeks of Lent leading up to Easter, Dethroning Mammon reflects on the impact of our own attitudes, and of the pressures that surround us, on how we handle the power of money, called Mammon in this book. Who will be on the throne of our lives? Who will direct our actions and attitudes? Is it Jesus Christ, who brings truth, hope and freedom? Or is it Mammon, so attractive, so clear, but leading us into paths that tangle, trip and deceive?

The Lent Group will meet four times – Sunday 12, 19 and 26 March; and Sunday 2 April – from 12.15 to 13.15 (i.e. after the 10.30 Eucharist) in Church. All are welcome.  A limited number of copies of the book are available from the Chaplain (email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)). They can also be purchased online.
