Welcome
Welcome to St Alban’s Church as we celebrate our patron saint! Alban was a citizen of the Roman city of Verulamium who gave shelter to a Christian priest fleeing persecution. He hid the priest in his house for many days, and learned prayer and devotion from him. When the authorities discovered where the priest was, Alban dressed himself in the priest’s cloak and was arrested and tortured by the Roman authorities. He refused to renounce his new found faith and was beheaded on 22 June in around the year 250. He is claimed as the first British martyr and his shrine is a place of annual pilgrimage in the cathedral city of his name in the UK. St Alban is also revered in Denmark and his mortal remains are said to be in Odense.
Pray:
God our Redeemer, whose church was strengthened by the blood of your martyr Alban; so bind us in life and death to Christ’s sacrifice that our lives, broken and offered with his, may carry his death and proclaim his resurrection in the world through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
