Guest from UK and the ICC, Sun 2nd of November

Posted on Wednesday 22nd October, 2008

From the 31st October to the 1st November the Danish ecumenical organisation, the Danish Council of Churches, will be holding its annual autumn conference. This year the theme is climate change and the church’s role. The conference is of special interest to Anglicans because the authors of the books ‘How Many Light Bulbs Does It Take to Change a Christian?’ and ‘Don’t Stop at the Lights’, the Archbishop’s representatives on the Environment David Shreeve and Claire Foster, will be participating with input and inspiration on behalf of the Church of England.

After their visit to Nyborg, on Sunday the 2nd of November, David Shreeve and Claire Foster will be coming to St. Albans to help us celebrate Mass and to talk about the Anglican Church’s green initiative, the Shrinking the Footprint Campaign; they will be available to answer any questions the congregation might have about environmental issues seen from the Christian perspective.

As part of an ecumenical initiative, our friends at the International Church in Copenhagen, the American Lutheran Church, who – like many of us at St. Alban’s – are very interested to hear what the church can do to help reverse climate change, will be coming to celebrate mass with us on the day.

At the service we will be receiving symbols of climate change from various corners of the world: dead corals from the South Seas of Fiji, where the rising water temperature has had a devastating effect; dried maize husks from drought affected farms in Malawi; and stones taken from areas formerly covered in ice, where the glaciers have retreated in Greenland.

We hope that you will come to the service to welcome David Shreeve, Claire Foster and Pastor Chad Rimmer and our friends from the ICC, and pray for all saints, all souls and the world in which we live.

With kind regards,

Katie, Nigel and Owen.
(The Churchwardens and the Environmental Officer)
