St Alban’s Valentine’s Day Service
A Service of the Word:
Celebration and Thanksgiving for God’s gift of love
Valentine’s day (14th February) is named after early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. The day was established by Pope Gelasius 1 in 496 AD. Associated since the fourteenth century with romantic love, today Valentine’s day has a wide commercial focus with many cards, flowers, gifts sent as tokens of affection and love to mark the occasion.
On Sunday 12 February there will be a special service to celebrate and give thanks for God’s gift of love. We will remember his love, a love so strong that “he gave his only Son so all who would believe in him, would not perish but have everlasting life.”. We will bring before God all our relationships thanking him for sending people into our lives. People we love and who love us and to ask for help in relationships that we perhaps find not so easy. We will ask God to help us become gentle and forgiving and to bring His loving gifts of wholeness and healing in our lives.
At the end of the service refreshments will be served including heart shaped cookies provided by St. Albans Mothers’ Union.
Everyone is welcome to this service of thanksgiving.
A service where loved ones present and loved ones remembered will be equally important.
